Makayla's Artist Statement

Hello,

I chose to do my portrait this way because I like swimming. I even like to stand on my head under the water. I do back flips under water, and stay under for three minutes! I like to play tag under water too. Oh, I want to teach you how to do a back flip under water. Okay, first you put your hands up, then put your hands back. Put one foot up then tilt into the water then flip! It's not easy, it took me four months to learn that.

Hi everyone,

My name is Zion.
I decided to do this because I wanted you to know what I look like and what my house looks like.
I have a brother. His name is Trinity. My mom has a car and it is white. Can I ask, what do you do for fun and are you happy that you are going to visit us? I'm in the third grade. If you ever get to go on a subway it is so much fun. Sometimes they show a movie. So, when you come I hope you have fun.

Hello there,

I chose this drawing of me because it is me! I like this background because I like purple. Purple is my favorite color. I picked pink because pink is another one of my favorite colors too. I also have pink covers on my bed and this is why I picked my picture's colors and background.

I like to play with my family. I also have a dog, a cat, two brothers, and I'm the only girl. I have a lot of cousins, aunties, and uncles. I love my family. I'm eight years old. I have a mom and a dad. One of my brothers is seven and the other is thirteen. I love my life and me.

Hi people,

I chose these colors for my self portrait because they are my favorites, and my favorite place is the playground. I am happy because I am at my favorite place, the playground! The playground has slides and swings that I go on to have fun.

I was born in Massachusetts. I have a mom, one brother, and one sister. I am Vietnamese. I enjoy building legos. I do like art because it is fun. I like drawing stick figures.

I decided to put a smile on my self portrait because at home my brother makes me smile a lot. I have a brother, a mom and dad. I live with my mom, dad, brother, aunt, two uncles, and grandma. My street is on a hill and I have glasses because I cannot see far away. I have a red shirt because my mom bought it for me and it is my favorite color. I live in Dorchester and I have a big family. I really enjoy doing karate. I also like to play with my toys. My brother and I like to battle with a marble. My brother also likes to make a racetrack. I have to go to karate on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Hello Igiugee School,

I drew the self portrait because that is a little bit of what I look like. I decided to use these colors because  green is for money, red is for love, and blue is for the clouds. I chose to put hearts in the background for happiness.

My name is Ashley. I am eight years old.  The background of my life is my family and friends. I am Brazilian, Ecuadorian, and Dominican. I cannot speak any of my languages. My favorite subjects are art and gym. I live in Mattapan and love candy. I play soccer and am also on a team called Scores at the Mather School.

Hello,

Here is my self portrait. I like my skin color. I like mom's plants because it makes a garden around my house. I like my family tree and I am happy that I get to go to the pool with my cousins Leila and Dawson. I get to use the flippers so I can swim faster.

I live on a big avenue in Dorchester. I have a family with Katie, Minh, and Christina. I kind of like my background. The thing I like to do is play soccer because it is good for your feet. I even like basketball, it is good for your hands.

Joseph's Artist Statement and Autobiography

Hello Students of Igiugig School,

I put little trees in my self portrait because my aunt has some still not fully grown. I also added a cardinal because I saw one three days ago. And I put in my cat because she likes to go outside. I put a nest because the cardinal had one in its tree. I put my teeth showing because I like to smile with my teeth showing. I also put a colorful shirt I have that my mom gave me last Christmas.

My name is Joseph. I like pizza. It is made with sausage, dough, pepperoni or cheese. My favorite sport is soccer. I like it because you get to run around and use teamwork. My favorite subject is reading because I am a good reader. Also, I got an award in first grade in reading. I also got one for math and showing my work. I like to go places with my family. That's because we get to have family fun and we get to enjoy ourselves. My family is everything to me. They take care of me and give care.
I like art because we get to do creative things. Also, Mrs. Kempe and Ms. Brady are nice teachers. I hope you like my autobiography. I tried to tell you everything but I did tell a lot.

My family is important because they're always caring for me. Love is important because people can care for you. School is where I met my best friend. I like to read books. My friends are cool people to hang out with. Math is a simple subject for me. My name is Alzerina, I'm 8 years old. I live in Boston, Massachusetts. My favorite game is twister. Hi,

The reason why I did a self portrait the way I did is because I wanted to let people know where I live and what I understand and speak. I was born on September 30, 2002. Now I'm 9 years old and I go to the Mather School. My family and I came from a country in Asia called China, but me and my mom and dad had to move to Boston, in America, when I was only one year old. When we got to Boston it was a whole new world. There were more people in Boston than where I was in China. We live in an apartment. I really enjoy doing origami because my friends do it too, like Randy, Nguyen, Dein, Tu, Andy and Danny. Art is important to me because it is fun doing crafts.
